Mocha RED was completed by Emily in four sessions. At the first session roasted coffee beans, cooked coffee grounds, red tempera paint, and Elmer’s Glue-All were combined and poured onto the canvas. Emily spread the mixture using a wooden spoon and the help of her collaborator.

At the second session uncooked coffee grounds were mixed with red tempera paint and Elmer’s Glue-All and spread onto the canvas with a wooden fork like tool. During the next session chocolate syrup was mixed with cooked coffee grounds. Using a squeeze bottle to apply the mix Emily filled empty areas and the edges of the canvas.

At the last session a sugar and red tempera paint mixture was poured onto the painting using a plastic squeeze bottle. Emily happily drank a glass of her favorite beverage, decafe coffee mocha, at the end of each session.
