William completed Acrylic on White in three painting sessions. In the first twenty minute session William covered his canvas with six colors of tempera paint mixed with sugar in a boxlike pattern. Using various sized brushes he painted yellow on the outer edge, then orange to the inside, then red, blue, green, and finally purple in the center. Then he said he was done.

At the second fifteen minute session, in an attempt to get William to add some accent strokes in white, his collaborator mixed white tempera paint with sugar. Using a one inch brush William then began to completely cover the entire canvas again! In a very methodical approach he painted the outer edges first, then divided the canvas into four sections, filling in each section one at time.

At the third twenty minute session William again covered his canvas. He dipped his brushes into five colors of acrylic paint squeezed onto paper plates. He painted with one inch broad strokes first in red, then green, some brown, and then yellow. His collaborator encouraged him to add a few white accent strokes to complete the painting.
