Daivd completed Blue Storm in one thirty minute session. His collaborator prepared a bowl of salt mixed with flour, water, and white acrylic paint. David spooned the mix onto the canvas spreading it with a wooden fork like tool.

Three batches of sugar mixed with tempera paint were also prepared by his collaborator: purple, dark blue, and orange. Using a medium sized brush David painted over the white salt dough mixture with the dark blue sugar paint spreading the combination near the center of the canvas.

In an adjacent area he then added orange sugar paint with a sponge brush, and then more dark blue with another medium sized brush. After being encouraged by his collaborator to cover the entire canvas, David proceeded to paint most of the empty areas with the dark blue sugar paint mixture, sometimes adding a dab of purple or orange.
