Joan finished Storm Cloud in one session lasting about thirty minutes, including clean up. She painted a canvas board with dark blue tempera paint mixed with sugar, then using a plastic suction squirt gun shaped like a large syringe, she squirted sugar paint onto the wet canvas board.

Joan placed the front end of the squirt gun into a plastic container of sugar paint sucking paint into the chamber by pulling the handle backwards. She then stood near the canvas board and plunged the handle forward squirting a stream of sugar paint in that direction.

Joan kept a short distance between herself and the canvas board each time she sprayed it with sugar paint to enhance the streaky effect. She began with aqua blue sugar paint, then squirted green, white, yellow, more aqua blue, and finally more yellow onto the canvas board. Joan enjoyed the painting session which was also entertaining to a group of her friends who watched nearby.
