FIREWORKS - by Paul Viader
Paul Viader Paul Viader Paul Viader Paul Viader
Paul finished Fireworks in one painting session lasting about fifty minutes. First Paul painted the canvas board with dark red tempera paint mixed with sugar. Using a plastic suction squirt gun shaped like a large syringe, Paul then squirted sugar paint onto the wet canvas.

Paul would place the front end of the squirt gun into a plastic container of sugar paint. Then he would suck paint into the squirt gun by pulling the handle backwards. Paul would approach the canvas board and then plunge the handle forward squirting a stream of sugar paint in that direction. His first attempt flooded the canvas with orange sugar paint as he was very close when he released the stream of paint.

His collaborator had him step further away from the canvas board for subsequent rounds of squirting red and white sugar paint. Paul thoroughly enjoyed creating his squirt gun painting, especially when spraying water on his collaborator and nearby onlookers while cleaning up with the garden hose.
