William finished Red and Orange in one fifteen minute painting session. With the help of his collaborator, he first prepared three bowls of tempera paint mixed with sugar: dark red, red, and orange.
Using a one inch brush he then dipped into the orange sugar paint creating an asterisk shape covering the entire canvas. He then used a rounded one inch brush and the red sugar paint to fill in the unpainted areas of the canvas.
Then he said he was done.
